Hello,
I have my personal things being sent to me from Finland to the USA, via storage container (20 foot). I currently live in Georgia, but not sure which port would be the better option. Also, are there fees to be paid for this & if so how would I find out the cost? And lastly, I’m now disabled, so personally retrieving my items maybe an issue. Should it be put in my name or is it possible to put it in the name of someone who could actually clear it for me? I appreciate your help.

I agree more with Investorwords’ definition than with Management Study Guide’s take on the definition. Speaking from a business process perspective, preparing all the documents and providing all the information required by customs supports or expedites clearing shipments. You can call it Support Clearance, Expedite Clearance, or Prepare Shipment Clearance. But Clear Shipment? No.

FedEX Express defines Clearance the way Management Study Guide does. It makes for a very muddled, unclear, and difficult to communicate process. Clearance documentation and the information they contain are simply inputs into the shipment clearance activity. Looking at clearance any other way makes it impossible to properly diagram and document, especially when those diagrams and documentation will be used to define requirements for software development.

It sounds like customs brokers are important in making sure that rules, regulations, and laws are kept when shipping things from country to country. It is interesting to know that there are many possible fees if the thing being shipped has problems. It is wise to do all paperwork carefully and thoroughly to avoid these fees and problems.
